What is Asphalt Resurfacing?

The resurfacing process involves removing the top layer of asphalt from the pavement surface (“milling”) and then laying a new layer of hot asphalt on top (“overlay”). This is why resurfacing is also referred to as a “mill and overlay.” The process replaces the top layers of asphalt with fresh asphalt, creating a brand new paved surface – free of cracks, damage, and uneven surfaces that hold standing water.

Benefits of Resurfacing

When an asphalt lot has surface damage, but a solid base and sturdy foundation, then only the top layers need to be removed and replaced with a new asphalt layer. Asphalt pavement that has received regular, proper maintenance is a good candidate for resurfacing.
